The Best Time to Move House in Dubai (and When to Avoid)
In Dubai, the date you choose can shape your whole move. Pick the right day and you get your first-choice slot, an easy service lift booking and a cooler, quicker job. Pick the wrong one and you may be competing with half the city for movers, permits and lifts.
There is no single perfect date for everyone, because your tenancy, your job and your children’s school all play a part. But some patterns hold true across Dubai. Here is how to work with them.
The quick answer
If your dates are flexible, aim for:
- Mid-month rather than the last or first few days of a month
- A weekday rather than a Saturday
- An early morning start, especially from May to September
- The cooler months from late October to April, avoiding the weeks around major holidays
Now for the detail.
Month-end and month-start: the busiest days
Dubai’s moving calendar follows its rental calendar. Many tenancy contracts begin and end around the first of the month, so the last few days of one month and the first few of the next are the busiest days of the year for movers.
That rush causes knock-on effects:
- Movers fill up early, and the best time slots go first
- Prices can be higher, especially if you book late
- Service lifts are in demand, as other residents are moving on the same day
- Building offices and permit portals are busier
If your lease allows any overlap, even a few days, moving mid-month is one of the easiest ways to make the day smoother. If you must move at month-end, book your movers and lift slots as soon as the date is fixed.
Weekends versus weekdays
Saturday is the most popular moving day in Dubai, because it lets people move without taking time off work.
A weekday move often means more choice of time slots, and in some buildings it also means easier lift access. The trade-off is taking a day off. For many people that is worth it, especially for a larger home where the move will take most of the day.
Check your building’s rules too. Some communities do not allow moves on certain days; Dubai Properties, for example, has been reported to permit moves from Saturday to Thursday only.
Moving in summer (June to September)
Summer is both the hottest and the busiest time to move in Dubai.
Why summer is popular
Many families move during the school summer holidays so children can start the new year in a new home. The UAE school year for 2026–27 ends on 2 July 2027, and many families aim to move between then and the start of the next term. Industry figures quoted by Khaleej Times describe June to August as the peak season for family relocations. Some landlords also offer better terms in late summer to fill empty units, which can make it a good time to find a new home.
Why summer is hard work
Daytime temperatures make heavy lifting slow and tiring, and heat can damage some belongings. The UAE’s midday break also restricts outdoor work in direct sunlight from 12:30pm to 3pm between 15 June and 15 September.
One 2026 moving cost guide estimates that summer peak pricing can be 15 to 25 per cent higher than at other times of year, and late bookings may attract an urgent surcharge.
How to make a summer move work
- Start early. A 7am start gets most of the loading done before the hottest part of the day.
- Use closed trucks to keep dust and direct sun off your furniture.
- Pack heat-sensitive items separately: candles, cosmetics, medicines, vinyl records, wine and some electronics. Move them in your own air-conditioned car if possible.
- Get the AC running at the new home before you arrive. If it has not been serviced recently, book an AC clean before you move in.
- Book earlier than usual, ideally three to four weeks ahead.
Moving during Ramadan
Ramadan is not a bad time to move, but it does need more planning. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, and to last 29 or 30 days.
- Shorter working hours. Private sector working hours are reduced by two hours a day during Ramadan. Building management offices, government service centres and utility providers may also work shorter days, so permits and connections can take longer.
- Plan your timings. Daytime moves are common, but agree start and finish times with your movers and building in advance.
- Be considerate. Avoid eating or drinking in public areas during fasting hours, including in lifts and lobbies.
Public holidays and long weekends
Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, UAE National Day and New Year often create long weekends. They are tempting for a move, as you get extra days to unpack, but there are downsides:
- Many people have the same idea, so movers get booked up
- Building offices may be closed, making last-minute permits difficult
- DEWA does not carry out move-out disconnections on Sundays or public holidays
Eid Al Fitr 2027 is expected around 9 or 10 March 2027. If you plan to move during a holiday, get permits approved and utilities requested well before it starts.
The best time of day to move
For most homes, the best time to start is early in the morning:
- Cooler temperatures, especially from May to October
- Lighter traffic if you start before the morning rush
- More of the building’s permitted hours left for unloading
- Time to unpack essentials and make the beds before evening
Office moves are different. Many businesses prefer to move in the evening or at the weekend to avoid downtime. RM Movers works 24/7, so we can schedule office moves overnight where the building allows it. See our office movers page for how we plan business relocations.
Planning a move across the year
| Period | Typical demand | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Late October to April | Moderate | Comfortable weather; busy around winter break and holidays |
| Ramadan (expected February–March 2027) | Moderate | Shorter working hours for offices and services |
| May | Moderate to high | Heat building up; good time to beat the summer rush |
| June to August | High | Family peak season; hottest months; book early |
| September | Moderate to high | Still hot; back-to-school moves |
| Last/first days of any month | Highest | Book movers and lifts as early as possible |
Matching your move to your tenancy dates
The best moving date is often decided by your contracts, not the calendar. Before you settle on a day, line up three dates:
- When your current lease ends and when the landlord expects the keys back
- When the new lease starts and when you can actually collect the keys
- When the old home must be cleaned, repainted and inspected
If the new home is ready a few days before the old lease ends, you can move mid-month, avoid the rush and still hand back a clean property on time. If there is a gap in the other direction, short-term storage can bridge it, so you are not forced into the busiest days. It is worth asking your new landlord early whether an earlier key handover is possible.
Why booking early matters
Whatever date you choose, the single best thing you can do is book early. It gives you:
- Your preferred date and time, rather than whatever is left
- Time for a proper survey and an accurate fixed quote
- Time to apply for building permits at both ends. See our move-in permit guide
- Time to sort DEWA, Ejari and internet, using our Dubai moving checklist
- Time to book extras, such as a move-out deep clean or painting so you get your deposit back
As a guide, book two to four weeks ahead for most apartment moves, and longer for villas, month-end dates and summer. Our moving cost guide shows how timing can affect what you pay.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best month to move house in Dubai?
For comfort and availability, the cooler months from late October to April are usually easiest, avoiding the busy weeks around school holidays and public holidays. Families with school-age children often choose July or August so they are settled before term starts, but that is also peak season.
Is it more expensive to move at the end of the month in Dubai?
It can be. Many tenancies start and end around the turn of the month, so the last few days of one month and the first few of the next are the busiest for movers. Mid-month dates are usually easier to book and less likely to carry peak pricing.
Can you move house in Dubai in summer?
Yes, and many families do. The key is to start early in the morning, use closed trucks, protect heat-sensitive items and keep the crew hydrated. Outdoor work in direct sunlight is restricted between 12:30pm and 3pm from mid-June to mid-September.
Is it a good idea to move during Ramadan?
It can work well if you plan around shorter working days. Private sector hours are reduced by two hours a day during Ramadan, and building management offices and service providers may keep shorter hours, so apply for permits and utilities earlier than usual.
How far in advance should I book movers in Dubai?
Two to four weeks ahead is sensible for most moves. For month-end dates, Saturdays, summer moves and villa moves, book as early as you can.
