Al Barsha is an established residential district rather than a single master-planned development, and it divides into Al Barsha 1, 2 and 3 and Al Barsha South. Al Barsha 1, around Mall of the Emirates, is the busiest part, with mid-rise apartment buildings, hotels, offices and shops. Al Barsha 2 and 3 are quieter and dominated by independent villas with gardens and private pools, often owned or rented by families who have been in the area a long time. Al Barsha South leans towards newer apartment buildings popular with young professionals.
The district is bordered by Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), with Al Khail Road (E44), Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311), Hessa Street and Umm Suqeim Street giving access from other directions. The Mall of the Emirates metro station on the Red Line serves Al Barsha 1. Streets near the mall and around Al Barsha Pond Park are congested at weekends and in the evenings, and on-street parking in front of apartment buildings is limited, so we plan arrival times and ask whether the building has a loading area or basement access. In the villa areas the roads are calmer, but large furniture, outdoor items and storage rooms make these longer jobs.
