Moving in Dubai Silicon Oasis
Dubai Silicon Oasis is a government-owned technology free zone of about 7.2 sq km, sitting where the Dubai–Al Ain Road meets Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311). It is managed by the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA). It is a mixed place to work in: offices and tech companies on one side, homes on the other. From our base in Deira, the drive down the E311 is straightforward outside the rush hours, and once you are inside the community the roads are quieter than in most of the older city.
Two very different kinds of move come out of DSO. The first is apartments. Mid-rise buildings such as Silicon Gates, Axis Residences, La Vista Residence, Arabian Gates, Coral Residence, Silicon Star and Sapphire Residence (several of them around eight storeys) hold studios up to three-bedroom flats, usually with residents' car parks and a service lift that has to be booked. Sapphire Residence, for example, sits along Academic City Road near the main entrance, which makes loading easier than at buildings deeper inside the zone. The second is villas. Cedre Villas is a gated community of 1,047 townhouses and villas, built in two phases, with three to five bedrooms and a maid's room in each home, and Semmer Villas adds more family houses. A Cedre move is a full family home with garden furniture and a garage, and needs a bigger truck and crew than a flat.
We have not found one published permit rule covering every DSO building, so we treat it building by building. Before the move date we ask you to check with your building management or the Cedre community office what they need, typically a booking, ID and the moving company's details, and we supply our trade licence and vehicle information. At gated villa clusters, security will want the truck registered at the gate. Public transport in DSO is limited, which does not affect us, but it is worth knowing if you are arranging for cleaners or a handyman on the same day.
